Between the Homes Tour last week-end and this week-end’s Dickens Celebration, I spent time at the beach every day.   Jelly fish are amazing to see but not in the water.

Beach everyday that is but my birthday when it rained almost all day long.

New neighbors back their bus in in the rain.  I hate driving in the rain and especially parking in the rain.

Later in the day, the rain stops and I can see the bus.  I’d love to see inside, meet the people but they are never outside and are gone in the morning when the weather is better.

My friends Mary and Pete sent me an Advent puzzle they did last year.  It’s really wonderful.  24 little boxes with the pieces for each day.   I’ve started it and have gotten to Dec 6 when I discover there is a problem.  Missing pieces, pieces that don’t fit anywhere.   I discover that the numbers on the back of the pieces for box 6 and box 9 look exactly the same.   So I go through them all and do that section of the puzzle.  The pieces I am left with are all 9’s so I take an orange highlighter and color all the 9’s so this doesn’t happen to anyone else.   It’s a fun puzzle and I’m looking forward to doing it all.  Perhaps I’ll give it to Carrie for next year.

My birthday dinner is a Maine Lobster roll from Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls.  They have Maine style cold lobster  with mayonnaise and Connecticut warm with butter.  The latter is my choice.   I buy a cup of clam chowder with it.  I get it as take out so I can bring it home  and add some broccoli to be a good girl.

Absolutely delicious!

My birthday present from Carrie this year is a book I’ve been wanting since this past spring.   It’s a big and heavy book – 9”x11”x1” and 3 pounds.   The paper is heavy and thus the printing and photographs are beautiful.  It is a paperback but the bindings are sewn so I hope it will hold up as well as a hardback.  As you can see by the bookmark, I’ve already started reading it.

The day before the beginning of Dicken’s On Centre I went into the historic section of town and walked around to see the decorations before the town is totally transformed.

The only store I go into is the bookstore of course.    The Book Loft is on Center Street with its historic commercial buildings.

It’s a beautiful warm and comfy feeling store.

In the children’s section I buy a book about insects for Colin and the Madeline Christmas book for Celia.  I think it may complete her collection but I’m not sure.
Why do I have no pictures of either book?

I’m very tempted to flop down in that chair and pick up an appealing book.

Tomorrow evening is the opening celebration of Dickens on Centre with a candlelight procession and the lighting of the Christmas Tree.    That’s coming up next.

  1. I hope the new year treats you well. We left Disney World on Dec 12 and flew home to -10 to -20 temps until yesterday it rose above zero. We both had some Disney crud by the day or two after getting here. So staying inside has been our life, the two feet of snow that came last night is nice to look at though. Nice post and Happy belated Birthday.

    1. Thank you for your wishes and your comment Tom. Your temperatures are beyond belief. How does anyone go outside in -20?? Or even zero for that matter. Hope you are feeling better. 2' of snow is lovely to look at.

  2. That is the most solid jelly fish I've ever seen - no transparency at all. I'm envious of your lovely Christmasy downtown and happy you shared it. The bookstore is really wonderful. I'd love to spend time there and see what the book-serving bear has to offer. I'm fascinated (and weird I know) with how warm and cozy that ceiling color and expanded molding make the space feel. Without a journal any timeliness on my part is about poor memory :-) Looking forward to seeing the grands, hurry, hurry!

    1. The bookstore is wonderful and I go in every time I'm in town. Grands are coming but first the Dickens on Centre. Love seeing you in the comments.
