Ready to go–404 error

I tried posting last night and today and am repeatedly getting a 404 error.  Unless someone who is also using Open Live Writer can help me figure this out or point me to some on line resources for help. I have no idea when you will hear from me again or if you will.   So aggravating, as if I don’t have enough troubles, and it was working fine 2 weeks ago.  What did I do or what did they do?

Clearly, since I was able to send this out with one photo but I can’t send a post with my usual too many photos, the problem is in the photos thing with google. But who wants a blog with one photo?  I have no clue how to fix it.

This happened last year and I took copious notes on what I had to do to “fix” it.  But when I tried to do that again in google photos, the web page was entirely different and none of what I’d done was available to me.

Is anyone else still using Open  Live Writer or did you all switch to Word Press?  I just don’t have the energy to do that but this recurring thing with OLW and I guess googles pictures which I don’t understand is really just adding to my problems and stress.

I’ll be very sorry not to have your comments.  It’s lonely out here and I look forward to them.

  1. One picture is worth a thousand words, so this is one long post. Hopefully you are enjoying Florida.

    1. Well I am rather infamous for my long and heavily pictured posts. Perhaps this one had more pictures than the one I put up two weeks ago but not that many more that it should break the bank.

  2. Sorry you are having this problem!! Wish I could help, but.....haven't blogged since 2018. I remember it could be very frustrating. Hope you can find the fix!!!

    1. Thanks for your good wishes Nancy. I may try to cut it in half and post it as part one and part two and see if Google will agree to that.

  3. I use Blogger and it has its own boggy flaws but it works ok for me. Try googling the 404 error. That’s what my techy brother always says to do. Also reboot your computer completely shut it down and off. Then turn back on. Sometimes those things mysteriously go away.

  4. Sometimes I get the error message when the WiFi isn't strong enough to upload pictures. I still use Blogspot and not live writer, but it can be frustrating!

    1. Actually I'm thinking that might possibly be the problem because the signal is very weak here so when I drive into the town of Okeechobee next week I'll take the laptop and see if I can post it from there. But last time this same thing happened with this same error a stronger signal didn't fix it. I had to go in and screw around with Google photos which apparently doesn't exist anymore they've moved to something else of course.

  5. I believe Blogger was "updated" - changed, a couple of months ago. It is much less intuitive than it was, and I can't imagine anyone preferring it over the previous version. It seems every program I use, including my banking system, has been updated lately, and none for the better. I rarely blog anymore.

    1. I agree Gypsy whenever they update anything it always seems to be more trouble and not work as well.

  6. I think the above advice is good. I know blogger got a little weird after its update.

When you compose a post, do you write first or post the photos and write text? I do the latter.

    1. Remember I'm not doing this directly with blogger which I hate I'm using Open Live Writer as the platform and it sends my post to blogger so I put the text around the pictures. OLW was once a Microsoft product and they dropped it and it became open source. But Microsoft products are notorious for not working with Google products as in the photos.

  7. I think I might be of help on this. Sometimes things get screwed up for some reason and I get that on live writer. The fix is to do a select all at the top right and copy it and paste it all in a newly opened livewire. Fix anything that isn't right and it should now post.
This has worked for me several times.

    1. so you are saying create a new post with a new title and just copy everything out of the old one and stick it in the new one?

    2. What I'm saying is something is corrupt in the post you tried to post with the internal posting part, so yes start a new Live wire post and copy and paste the corrupt post into the new live wire window. You can use the same title. Making the new post will fix the corrupt part, that's why you were able to post this one. I have this problem also occasionally and this fixes the problem.
Nothing is wrong with the post as you wrote it but something is corrupt in the internal posting part.
See, if you make a new post like this one, it works right. So just copy and paste the bad post to a new Live wire window and the bad stuff should be gone and the post should post as that's the way it's worked for me when this problem shows up.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear you're having blog problems. You certainly don't need 404 errors on top of the problems you've recently had with your rig! Hang in there, I hope that you'll get it figured out.

  10. Phooey! I like your pictures too! Technology is great except when it isn't. I feel like I use magical thinking whenever something doesn't work. Just keep trying the same thing hoping that on the 15th try it will work.!@#! xxxooo

  11. Wish I could help. But I’m not very good with computer stuff. I have no idea what to tell you except that I enjoy your blog and hope you don’t give up. I may not comment very often but do read all your post.

    1. Thanks Doris. I'm glad you read but hope you'll comment more often so I'll have something to read. That is IF I can get this working again and that's a BIG IF.

  12. Wish I could help but have never blogged or used either of the products you use. I am less than impressed by the changes that we constantly face in software products. Many are designed to hide thingd from the user and make it harder to do simple things. Hope someone has a hint that helps...

  14. So very sorry, Sherry! In the latest news here, we had about 5" of snow Friday, then freezing rain yesterday that weighed down the trees. I've been listening to the "bangs" as Penny's magnolia tree loses entire branches, crashing down onto the icy ground. I hear the roads are now clear and not slick. But I've not been out in 2 days! Enjoy the warmth and I hope the computer issues are resolved soon.

  16. So frustrating but look at all the comments you've got to keep you company :-)))) Hope you find a successful fix soon as I'm anxious to get caught up with where you are and what you're up to! All well here, hoping to get Bill in for vaccine soon so we can relax about heading out in April. Our cooler temps are lovely but already a 79 in the forecast :-(

    1. I hope you don't run into things being closed or shut down or limited. the more I looked into coming West the more I found that visitor centers were closed there were no tours so it seemed a long way to go for a limited experience.

  17. No matter the error #, they never make sense. I got that one a week ago from OLW then copy/pasted it directly to WordPress. I did an update blog theme on OLW and it seems to be OK. Ssshhhh... Having said that a weak signal slows me down to stop when I try to post draft to blog. Sometimes, I just start over, which is like what Bob said. I'm trying to get better at, deep breath and walk away, then return later. None of these things always work. I'm sorry for the frustration and hope for resolution as I'd truly miss your stories and photographs.

    1. Well blogger apparently didn't like my weak signal or the length of the post but I got the blog up there anyway.

  18. I gave up on OLW as I could never come up with a fix. Now I use Blogger, which I dislike, but since I rarely post anymore I can tolerate it on a limited bases. Hope you can find a work-around.
Your one photo is nice, looks like a very tropical campsite!

    1. When I saw I could post one picture then I knew it wasn't the pictures, it was the signal and MAYBE too many pictures. Both proved to be true and I'm back posting. Doubt I'd do it without OLW as touchy as it is. Why did microsoft ever abandon it?
